Black is beautiful. That is not a just a notion, it’s a fact. Here at Blackownedandco.com, we are passionate about celebrating the beauty that is embedded in the black experience, both stateside and abroad.
The idea for the site was born out of the frustration our founder, Gerena Gregory, experienced after flipping through the beauty issue of a popular magazine geared toward Black women. The products featured were all stellar, but she found herself a bit disappointed that very few were created by black owned businesses.
After a few online searches for black owned businesses in her area to support produced one defunct directory after another, she knew there had to be a better way. A student in law school at the time, she didn’t have the time to sift through stale lists to find the kind of businesses and brands that complimented her interests. She wanted one place to visit that not only featured black owned businesses, but that also offered a celebration of the culture. When she couldn’t find it, she decided to create it, and the idea for Black Owned & Co began to take shape.
The mission of Black Owned & Co is to be a virtual resource that makes shopping black owned and other small businesses fun, engaging, and easy. We seek to become a premier destination for lifestyle content that will feed your soul, enhance your style, and help you become a better you, overall. Content on the site features some of the best and brightest black owned businesses around, so you never have to look far to find what you need - be it a unique gift for a friend, travel tips, or a treat for yourself.

The Chief Curator behind Black Owned and Company. I’m a Caribbean girl living in the Windy City looking for different ways to support black-owned and other minority-owned businesses, and telling as many people as I can about this journey!
If you’re like me, then scrolling through another list with 10 or more businesses were not working out with my busy schedule! Call me lazy. It’s Okay! I really am, lol. I enjoy visuals, and seeing product snapshots that I pin, share and have them all in one place.
I created this space after months of continuously discovering black-owned businesses online and on social media. My aim for this lifestyle brand is to make shopping black-owned and other small businesses fun, engaging, and resourceful.
